Books for Our Babies Ages 0-2
Wow – books for kids who don't even know what it is they are looking at. Exactly, the point; when our kids are between the ages 0-2 it is our job to teach them basic sounds, colors, letters, numbers and more importantly, a general interest in books. Waiting for our kids to go to school to learn the joy of reading is just too late (Check out the PBS/WETA video below to see what the research says). Language development starts at home with the parents. We can greatly enhance our children's literacy skills by just reading aloud with them 1/2 hour each day (for our babies we want to break the time up into approx. 1-3 minute chunks). When choosing a book for your baby, look for these key features: - The book is made from a material that your kid won't destroy by putting it in their mouth. We suggest board books or books made to go in the bathtub.
- A book with simple and colorful pictures that you can point to and easily identify aloud.
- A book with a few basic words and/or simple sentences.
